Advocacy

Our organizing and advocacy work is shaped by the stories and patterns of systemic abuse that we hear through our relationships with community members, leaders, partner agencies and through our legal program.

Overview:

Our Advocacy Program does this work in 4 main ways:

  1. Grassroots Community Organizing

  2. Narrative Change

  3. Coalition Partners

  4. Civic Engagement

We do this work to center the voices of immigrants and refugees, create a more positive narrative, transform unjust systems, and build a powerful movement for immigrants’ rights at all levels.

Iowa Legislative Session

Iowa MMJ is here to keep you informed and engaged throughout each year’s legislative session. This toolkit will explain processes and give concrete ways to make your voice heard with state lawmakers. This toolkit will be updated as the session progresses, and we are actively working on translating this into multiple languages.

Public Comments

Under U.S. law, government agencies must follow certain procedures to change their rules. In many instances, when an agency makes a significant change to a rule or creates a new one, the agency is required to go through a period where they accept and review comments made by the public before the agency can finalize the rule. Below are two resources to help you leave a comment!
