ICE in Iowa: Report by Iowa MMJ July 2025

Iowa MMJ has created a report on ICE activity in Iowa. Our reports pull on years of legal and community expertise in the state and cover the historic activity, partnerships with ICE and local law enforcement, along with the current presence and activity of ICE. Specifically, our report highlights the 6 county jails that currently have Intergovernmental Service Agreements with the U.S. Marshals Service. These agreements allow the jails to detain people for ICE for 72 hours and longer. These jails are located in Woodbury, Pottawattamie, Polk, Hardin, Linn, and Muscatine counties, and can collectively detain more than 200 people. Our report also has information for individuals who have a loved one detained by ICE in Iowa on how to find, visit, and support individuals in ICE custody.
