Press Releas: Iowa MMJ Secures Release of Asylum-Seeker Unlawfully Detained by ICE
“Des Moines, IA – Earlier this month, an Iowa resident and asylum-seeker was released from immigration detention after a Federal Judge in Des Moines ruled that his detention was unlawful. This Iowan is now free to reunite with his family as he defends his immigration case.
The Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice (Iowa MMJ), along with trusted partners, provided representation in this habeas challenge to unlawful detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Polk County Jail. “This case shows that everyone has rights and deserves access to due process. No one should be imprisoned without charges, without access to an attorney,” said Ann Naffier co-director of Iowa MMJ’s legal program.”
